Integration of the Internet of Things with Cloud Computing: Security Challenges, Performance Issues, and Future Directions

The current increase in Internet of Things (IoT) applications requires transmitting, storing, and processing tremendous amounts of data. To fulfill these specific application needs, many IoT applications require the use of cloud computing. Nevertheless, integrating the IoT with the cloud also has problems with network latency, throughput, energy consumption, reliability, and so on. Thus, a new computing model is required to support the future use of IoT. This paper examines the performance of IoT in cloud computing, its issues, potential solutions, and prospects. The primary purpose of the investigation of the collaboration of IoT and cloud computing technologies and the optimization of information management and decision-making is a combination of the two that can introduce new security concerns.
The method focuses on practical applications and security vulnerabilities by conducting an extensive literature review and case studies in various industries, such as smart infrastructure and healthcare. Findings indicate that cloud computing and IoT improve scalability, cost efficiency, and real-time data accessibility. The aspects of this integration include critical security concerns like real-time access to data, AI attacks by adversaries, and limitations that are imposed by limited IoT devices. To maintain system resilience, the research of the future should be focused on enhancing privacy protection and fighting the emergent threats.
