Digital Preservation Policy

Albahit Journal of Applied Sciences is committed to preserving the published scholarly record and ensuring long-term access to all published research articles and journal issues through digital preservation and electronic archiving procedures in accordance with international standards and best practices for scholarly content management.

The purpose of this Digital Preservation Policy is to protect the journal’s scientific content from loss, damage, or technical failures, and to ensure that it remains accessible to researchers and readers while maintaining the integrity of metadata and information associated with published research.


1. Objectives of Digital Preservation Policy

The journal aims to:

  • Ensure continuous access to published research articles and journal issues.
  • Protect scholarly content from risks of data loss and technical failures.
  • Maintain the journal’s scholarly record in a secure and organized manner.
  • Support future access to articles and enhance their visibility and citation impact.
  • Ensure the continuity of published content in the event of future technological changes.

2. Electronic Archiving of Scholarly Content

Albahit Journal of Applied Sciences preserves and archives all journal content electronically, including:

  • Published journal issues.

  • Scientific articles and research papers.

  • Files and supplementary materials associated with research articles.

  • Article metadata, including:

    • Article title.
    • Authors’ names and institutional affiliations.
    • Abstract.
    • Keywords.
    • Publication and citation information.
    • DOI information when available.

The content is managed and preserved through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, with regular backup and protection procedures.


3. Backup and Data Protection

The journal implements necessary measures to ensure the safety and continuity of published content through:

  • Performing regular and scheduled backups of all journal files, databases, and electronic content.
  • Maintaining electronic PDF copies of all published issues and research articles.
  • Storing additional backup copies on secure cloud storage services.
  • Maintaining additional copies on secure external storage devices (External Hard Drives).
  • Regularly updating backup copies to ensure the availability of the latest versions of published content.
  • Protecting journal files and databases from loss, damage, or unauthorized access.

4. Long-Term Digital Preservation

Albahit Journal of Applied Sciences uses the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform and seeks to implement long-term digital preservation services, including:

PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

which is a digital preservation network provided by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP). It aims to ensure the long-term preservation of published articles and issues, maintain the journal’s scholarly record, and provide future access for researchers.

The journal also seeks to strengthen its digital preservation system through the use of other international preservation services when required, such as:

  • LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe).
  • CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS).
  • Portico Digital Preservation Service.

According to the journal’s available resources and approved organizational procedures.


5. Continued Access to Published Content

Albahit Journal of Applied Sciences ensures that:

  • Published articles remain available for reading and downloading according to the Open Access Policy.
  • Published articles are not removed except according to approved scientific and ethical procedures.
  • Electronic records of corrected or retracted articles are maintained with clear status information and reasons for the action taken to ensure scientific transparency.

6. Preservation of Metadata and Digital Identifiers

The journal maintains complete metadata for each article to ensure discoverability and indexing in scholarly databases.

The journal supports the use of digital identifiers, including:

DOI (Digital Object Identifier)

to facilitate access to research articles and connect them with the global scholarly record.

The journal also encourages authors to use:

ORCID iD

to accurately link scholarly outputs with researchers.


7. Compliance with International Standards

Albahit Journal of Applied Sciences applies this Digital Preservation Policy in accordance with:

  • DOAJ Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.
  • COPE Core Practices and Guidelines.
  • International best practices in digital archiving and preservation of open access scholarly journals.
